NOTES:
1. The term (REF) refers to the measurements taken from the Government furnished
hub or die.
2. Attaching device shall be the pin and catch type.
3. The attaching device shall be located and soldered on a horizontal line 1-1/8 inch +
1/32 inch - 0 below the top of the decoration. The pin shall be formed from 0.057 inch
0.002 inch diameter nickel silver wire and shall be 2-1/32 inches ± 1/32 inch in finished
length.
4. Pierced areas shall be as indicated.
5. Enamel colors shall be as indicated. The colors shall conform to the TIOH Hard
Enamel Color Chip Numbers listed below. The white enamel areas of the five (5) rays shall
be convex within the dikes.

6. Epoxy resin (stoning epoxy) may be used in lieu of hard enamel at the option of the
manufacturer. When epoxy resin is used in lieu of hard enamel, the material requirement
shall be gilding metal or red brass.
7. The base shall be spherically dapped to a radius of 3-1/32 inch ± 1/16 inch. The
center device shall be dapped so as to fit flush on the base.
8. The center device shall be secured to the base by means of two brass tubular rivets.
9. Unless otherwise specified, the finished decoration shall be wrapped in three
thicknesses of tissue paper and placed in a unit box. The dimensions of the unit box shall
be determined by the contractor.
10. Decoration set shall consist of a chest pin, a service ribbon with a ribbon attachment
and a lapel button all packaged in a presentation case conforming to MIL-DTL-14633, Type
VI, Style 5 with a Class 1 or 1A pad.
11. The ribbon for the service ribbon shall conform to MIL-DTL-11589/80.
12. The lapel button shall conform to MIL-DTL-11484/10.
13. The ribbon attachment shall conform to MIL-DTL-41819/1.
