DETAIL SPECIFICATION
INSIGNIA, RANK AND GRADE, EMBROIDERED SHOULDER MARKS,
AIR FORCE AND ARMY, GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies
of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification establishes the requirements for Air Force and Army shoulder
marks with embroidered insignia of rank and grade.
1.2 Classification. The shoulder marks are of the types, sizes, and classes noted below
(see 6.2):
Type I - Air Force, Officer
Size 1 - Large
Size 2 - Small
Class 1 - General
Class 2 - Lieutenant General
Class 3 - Major General
Class 4 - Brigadier General
Class 5 - Colonel
Class 6 - Lieutenant Colonel
Class 7 - Major
Class 8 - Captain
Class 9 - First Lieutenant
Class 10 - Second Lieutenant
Type II - Army, Officer
Size 1 - Large
Size 2 - Small
Class 1 - General
Class 2 - Lieutenant General
Class 3 - Major General
Class 4 - Brigadier General
